Disabling the exclusive mode for connected record/playback devices (Windows)

In some cases, one-way audio issues may occur when users have another voice application running on the PC and that application may use the recording/playback device(s) in exclusive mode (get exclusive control). To address this issue, we recommend disabling the exclusive mode for all connected record/playback devices on the affected PC. By doing so, you may potentially resolve the audio problems you are facing.

Here's a step-by-step guide to disabling exclusive mode:

  1. Right-click on the speaker icon located in the system tray on your taskbar.

  2. Select "Sounds" from the context menu that appears. This will open the Sound settings window.

  3. Select the recording device you are using (e.g., microphone) and click on the "Properties" button below.

  4. In the Properties window, go to the "Advanced" tab.

  5. Uncheck the box that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."

6. Click "Apply" to save the changes and “OK” to close the Properties window.

7. Repeat steps 3-6 for any other recording devices you have connected.

Once you have disabled exclusive mode for all connected record devices, please restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
